✍🏼 Song Inspiration ✍🏼

Below are a couple of quotes from the Baha’i Writings that inspired this song:

“The verses of God have been revealed, and yet they have turned away from them. His proof hath been manifested, and yet they are unaware of it. And when they behold the face of the All-Merciful, their own faces are saddened, while they are disporting themselves. They hasten forward to Hell Fire, and mistake it for light.”

✍🏼 The Lyrics ✍🏼

[Ayana – Chorus]
Fire’s burning all around, ashes falling to the ground,
Someone save me, set me free,
Smoke it settles on my skin, don’t play with fire you’ll never win,
Someone save me, help me breathe

[Verse 1]
S.o.S.,
Sight off set
Side-effect obscured sense,
Sensories outta step,
Shadows overthrowing sunshine,
Seeking out solutions,
Shattering old-world structures,
Substitutions outta sight,
Signifies our strayed,
Search oshelter,
Shade obstructing shine,
Save our soul, save our ship,
Send out succor,
Runnin outta time,
Eyes wide open, dark world got us feeling blind,
Pupils dilated, see a light,
off in the distance,
Hasten forward blurry vision,
Aching hearts at the wretched conditions,
Desperate for a haven, tortured by the system,
Moving closer start to feel the heat, attracted to the flame,
Anything to stop the pain, gain relief,
From these circumstances, marching on, taking action,
Eyes start to burn, foggy clouds
No slowing down, pacing to the blaze,
Hard to breathe, scent of smoke,
Choke as the ash floats through the air now we stare into the glow,

[Ayana – Chorus]
Fire’s burning all around, ashes falling to the ground,
Someone save me, set me free,
Smoke it settles on my skin, don’t play with fire you’ll never win,
Someone save me, help me breathe

[Verse 2]
Like a moth in the night, designed to follow the light,
Drawing nearer to the candle, lost sight of the moon above,
Beguiled by the flicker, befooled by the flame,
Bewildered by the darkness, betrayed,
Slowly burns, gave its life away, in vein,
Same story in the world,
Nightfall got the masses chasing after fires burning all around,
Headed for disaster,
Deceived toxic ideologies, debris charred smolder to ground,
Deceased soul of man, bound to these
Destructive doctrines, toxins, daily growing bold and brazen
Disintegration,
Collapse, optics outta whack,
Light brings life, fire burns everything in its path,
Sun rays illuminate the truth, hell fire annihilates, just a trail of soot, take a view,
Which one we running to,

[Ayana – Chorus]
Fire’s burning all around, ashes falling to the ground,
Someone save me, set me free,
Smoke it settles on my skin, don’t play with fire you’ll never win,
Someone save me, help me breathe

[Bridge]
“They drink of the tainted water, and know it not. The verses of God have been revealed, and yet they have turned away from them. His proof hath been manifested, and yet they are unaware of it… They hasten forward to Hell Fire and mistake it for light.” – Baha’u’llah

[Ayana – Chorus]
Fire’s burning all around, ashes falling to the ground,
Someone save me, set me free,
Smoke it settles on my skin, don’t play with fire you’ll never win,
Someone save me, help me breathe

📖 The Story 📖

In 2015, the Universal House of Justice (the Supreme Governing Body of the Baha’i Faith) sent a message to the Baha’is of the World. In that message, they referenced the “wretched condition of the world” and the “self-serving, intolerant, and toxic ideologies that feed upon discontent and resentment.” But the message was not simply to dwell on all the problems humanity was facing. It was to inspire members of the Baha’i community to remember that we have a way to contribute to the world’s betterment. 🌍

More specifically, the Universal House of Justice stated, “it is systematic, determined, and selfless action undertaken within the wide embrace of the (Baha’i) Plan’s framework that is the most constructive response of every concerned believer to the multiplying ills of a disordered society”. Additionally, they referenced a potent quote from the Baha’i Scripture that states, “They hasten forward to Hell Fire, and mistake it for light.”

I was really inspired by this message, and this concept of mistaking Hell Fire for light, leaving me reflecting deeply on the state of the world. I knew I wanted to write a song about Hell Fire and light. A short while later, I was working on sharpening my craft as a rapper and doing some study on poetry and various literary tools. I came back to this song idea and the phrase “SOS” came to mind. ✍🏽

I then started writing various phrases related to Hell Fire and light that went in an SOS pattern. Sight off set, side-effect: obscured sense, sensories outta step, etc. And the first verse of “S.O.S” was born!

I found a beat online that matched the vibe I was going for, and it even had a pre-loaded hook that matched my theme and lyrics perfectly!

“Fire’s burning all around, ashes falling to the ground,
Someone save me, set me free,
Smoke it settles on my skin, don’t play with fire you’ll never win,
Someone save me, help me breathe”

Within a couple of days time, I had the lyrics written, and the song complete. Fast forward a couple of years later when I was ready to include this song on album and get it professionally produced, I wondered if I could make the song sound even better.

My dear friend and musical collaborator, Nabilnho, had recommended me a vocalist named Ayana, should I ever need some soul-stirring vocals for a future track. I reached out to Ayana on social media and shared the song idea with her. She loved the concept and accepted my invitation to collaborate on the track.

I sent Ayana the instrumental, and within 6 hours she had already recorded and sent me the vocal recordings to be used for the track. It was record timing!!

“S.O.S” happens to be the only track on the Created Noble album that features another artist vocally. I’m so pleased with Ayana’s contribution, she really brought the track to a whole new level!!

When artists collaborate, the end results can be such a unique and beautiful creative expression! Ever wondered how artists come together to work on a project together? There are surely countless ways that various artists can come together, but I thought it would be insightful to share the interaction between Ayana and I when discussing this song idea (particularly because it went so smoothly and seamlessly!).

After connecting on Instagram, we decided to take the conversation to WhatsApp, which is a bit easier to exchange voice notes to each other. I sent Ayana the following message:

I then sent emailed her the song with my rap vocals, but an empty place for her to sing the chorus. She immediately replied back with excitement!

A few minutes later, she was already getting to work on the song!

And just a few hours later, Ayana had already recorded and sent me the vocal files to be used for the song! I was truly in AWE!!

Here is a recording of the pre-loaded hook that came with the instrumental I purchased for this song. It sounds dope as well, but I’m so happy that Ayana agreed to contribute to the song and take the song to a whole new level!

S.O.S is also one of the tracks that was released as a single prior to the album release. Ayana and I created a little promo video of us performing the song, which you can watch below:

Beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing!

As for fires that humanity is currently chasing after, I’d put materialism, wealth, fame, and ownership among them.
