Revisit: Day 1 Day 2Day 3 – Day 4 – Day 5Day 6Day 7

The ‘LIT’ Album Experience

LIT is a ‘lyrical remix’ album where I take mainstream pop and hip hop songs that have an amazing sound and style (but leave a lot to be desired in terms of lyrical content), and I infuse them with my own original, spiritually-conscious lyrics.

✍ The Lyrics ✍

[Verse 1]
Huh, it’s kinda crazy, feels like the other day I was just a baby,
Time flies, the years pass by, no lie, we all grow old like Ms. Daisy,
But this society that raised me seems so afraid, see,
Cuz when you call a person old, it’s like a curse word,
It’s like the worst word,
It’s like the stick me in a casket drive me off in a hearse word,
Gray hairs make you wanna die/dye,
And them wrinkles on our forehead leave you feeling paralyzed,
After you hit ‘em with a little botox,
Advertisers round the clock, telling you let’s turn back the clock,
Tick tock, tick tock, let me clock you with my spotlight,
Stop the clock, pump the brakes like a stoplight,
The way we think about time’s all wrong, messed up,
It’s erroneous, I call that counter clockwise, uh
I call that counter clockwise,
I call that counter clockwise,
If you thought you’re just flesh,
If you thought your time was up after you take your last breath,
It’s like your watch lied,
Life is more than the chances of this world,
True life is the life of the soul,
So now you know, getting old ain’t scaring me,
Cuz I know my soul is living life eternally,

[Chorus]
Cuz I know my soul is living life eternally,
Yeah, cuz I know my soul is living life eternally,
Now you know, getting old ain’t scaring me
Cuz I know my soul is living life eternally,

[Verse 2]
I: One syllable, one sound,
Two horizontal lines running parallel bound by a pillar down the middle,
Same symbol representing the most perfect Roman numeral: One,
Before we reach this station,
Our soul originates from the spiritual worlds of perfection,
No beginning, no end, just like a circular dot,
But then at the time of conception whether you’re ready or not,
Your soul connects to the embryo,
Which is more like a box locked in by material laws,
But then this dot and and this box capitalize,
Together they are drawn to become one,
To become I,
I am a human being, but this only lasts a mortal life,
My physical body remains in the world below acting like a mirror reflecting my soul,
Until that day finally comes when it’s time to return,
Body to the world of dust as our soul yearns,
To come home to the spiritual realms,
Like a stream to the ocean,
Light ray back to the sun,
We all come from God, and unto Him we return,
Death offereth life indeed,
So now you know, getting old ain’t scaring me,
Cuz I know my soul is living life eternally,

[Chorus]
Cuz I know my soul is living life eternally,
Yeah, cuz I know my soul is living life eternally,
Now you know, getting old ain’t scaring me
Cuz I know my soul is living life eternally,

[Bridge]
“…concerning the state of the soul after its separation from the body. Know thou, of a truth, that if the soul of man hath walked in the ways of God, it will, assuredly, return and be gathered to the glory of the Beloved. By the righteousness of God! It shall attain a station such as no pen can depict, or tongue describe. The soul that hath remained faithful to the Cause of God, and stood unwaveringly firm in His Path shall, after his ascension, be possessed of such power that all the worlds which the Almighty hath created can benefit through him.”

So now you know, getting old ain’t scaring me, cuz I know my soul is living life eternally,

[Chorus]
Cuz I know my soul is living life eternally,
Yeah, cuz I know my soul is living life eternally,
Now you know, getting old ain’t scaring me
Cuz I know my soul is living life eternally,

🎁 Bonus Content 🎁

Seeing as today’s primary theme was on a very deep topic (the eternal journey of the soul) I thought I’d share a very meaningful song that also explores this concept. Similar to “Eternal”, the song “Gift of God” was the closing song for my last album, Wizdome.

It’s a very special song for me, as it is an ode to my grandfather, Ata’u’llah, whose name in Persian means “Gift of God” (similar to the name “Matthew”). I served as a caregiver to my grandfather for the final couple years of his life, so we grew quite close.

He passed away in 2016, on the same day that I had successfully secured funding from a Kickstarter campaign to professionally produce the Wizdome album. I decided to dedicate the Wizdome project to my grandfather, and created a song to honor him.

The song also explores the themes of the afterlife and the journey of the soul, so I wanted to share it with you all. I hope it brings you inspiration :).

🤔 Elevated Conversation 🤔

Based on today’s lyrical remix, here are some questions for reflection:

1) Do you believe in the AFTERLIFE? Why or why not?
2) How does your belief AFFECT your daily actions?

I’ve really enjoyed hearing all your thoughts on these important topics! We’ve officially elevated the conversation!! Let’s finish this experience off with another great discussion :). You know the drill… leave your thoughts below!👇🏽

  • I really love this track, and it’s a great subject. I have always believed that our lives don’t just suddenly end. I’m not just worms meat. Life is much more than the physical, the physical body is temporary but the spiritual body didn’t end. For those that have lost loved ones, it can be so hard. But I truely believe they are right there beside us, looking out for us, loving us. Sometimes we see them in a dream, have a sudden clear thought, or see something in nature, that’s some of the ways they can connect with us however we will reunite in a much fuller extent in the spiritual world. Really, this physical world is the spiritual world too. There is a beautiful quote that says

    “O MAN OF TWO VISIONS!

Close one eye and open the other. Close one to the world and all that is therein, and open the other to the hallowed beauty of the Beloved.”

    Bahá’u’lláh

So these two visions I believe are seeing with the physical eye, as well as being able to see with our spiritual eye. That in itself to me is proof there is a spiritual world and life eternal.

    • Yes, this is such a great reminder! It’s really easy to think of the next life as a separate place, unconnected to this life. But in reality, it seems that is intimately connected. The analogy of the womb is a great example that’s helped me to understand it better.

While we are in the womb, we are in a separate world, and yet, we are technically in this world the whole time, just separated by a thin layer of skin. And then, after 9 months, we transition from womb to earth, never to return to the womb again.

Similarly, I think that it’ll be similar when we transition from the earthly realm to the heavenly realm. We’ll see how close it really was the whole time, but that we were just separated by a thin spiritual veil… Some deep food for thought!

  • Sharon says:

I do hope and pray that there is something after the end of our lives. I lost my husband and soulmate Pete almost 8yrs ago now and what keeps me going is the thought that one day our souls will reunite and we will be together forever. I would like to thank you for this awesome album experience with you. Here,s hoping that you will do something like this in the future. I would also like to wish that you and your family the very best for the future. X

    • Thank you so much Sharon!! I’ve really enjoyed it myself, especially hearing everyone’s comments on these important social and spiritual themes!

And yes, it is so interesting, isn’t it? How all those that have come before us have passed to some other realm (so many souls!), and yet, all those who are in this current life are barred from having access to knowledge of that heavenly realm. But yet, we have faith that SOMETHING awaits us. We have been given this promise by the Divine Messengers of God, and many have had some kind of experience that gives them faith (such as a dream, or a sign). And then many just prefer to believe in an afterlife, as the alternative of nonexistence is a much more somber thought.

I think the anticipation of reuniting with our loved ones, as you pointed out, is definitely one of the things that gives us the most hope and faith in a heavenly realm beyond this world. I’m really looking forward to reuniting with my grandparents, as well as all the elders in my family tree who have passed something down that benefited me and my journey! 🙂

  • Monica Jeffers says:

Thank you Colby for mentioning my father, Ata’ullah Foroughi. He will always love you and send you inspiration. The next world is much more than this world. We will progress until we are closer and closer to God. Mom

  • David Dindy says:

I believe in an afterlife not due to any particular person convincing me, but because of the teachings of Baha’Ullah Who elaborated more on this theme than any other past Manifestation of God. I believe that Baha’U’llah is the Messenger of God for today’s day & age.

This belief does affect my daily actions but gradual and subtle, and has been most noticeable as my Faith grows and I get older. I notice it in my conversation with others. I tend to bring it up whenever possible hoping that it will spark a conversation. It is one of my favorite topics.

    • Thanks for sharing David! Yes, Baha’u’llah’s Writings on the afterlife are plentiful and all provide a glimmer of insight into that next realm. It’s interesting tho that Baha’u’llah also states that it’s a realm that no pen can depict, or tongue describe, i.e. it’s beyond explanation.

It’s like the Divine Messengers have had this difficult task of describing something that is indescribable in earthly terms, and yet, have still attempted to give us SOME understanding, as the implications of the next life in how we live this current life are of the utmost importance.

And I agree, it’s a totally fascinating topic! I remember as a kid, any time I would ponder the next world, I would have this really surreal feeling in my stomach and head that was almost hard to tolerate for too long, so I’d have to shift my thoughts to something else. Still kind of like that to this day… So interesting!
