Prayer for Healing: 10 Musical Renditions of the Short Bahá’í Healing Prayer

A prayer for healing. It is one of the most common prayer requests people receive. Whether suffering from a sickness or illness, feeling depressed, undergoing a spiritual test, or the many other ailments and difficulties that we face in our daily lives, turning to God and praying for healing is one of the most common and effective strategies humans have to return to health.

The Bahá’í Writings have several prayers that center on healing, including one generally referred to as the “short healing prayer”, which is quite popular amongst Bahá’í’s and friends of the Bahá’í Faith. Due to its beauty, potency, and its brevity, the short Bahá’í healing prayer is a favorite among artists to put to music.

Here are the words of the short Bahá’í healing prayer:

“Thy name is my healing, O my God, and remembrance of Thee is my remedy.  Nearness to Thee is my hope, and love for Thee is my companion. Thy mercy to me is my healing and my succor in both this world and the world to come.  Thou, verily, art the All-Bountiful, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.”

Below is a playlist of beautiful musical arrangements using the short Bahá’í healing prayer. I pray they uplift and bring you some healing!

Prayer for Healing: 10 Musical Renditions of the Short Baha’i Healing Prayer

1) Jamey Heath – “Thy Name Is My Healing”

Los Angeles based composer and singer-songwriter Jamey Heath uses his voice and a guitar to bring healing to your soul with this beautiful arrangement. Honing in on the first phrase of the prayer, “Thy name is my healing, O my God…”, Jamey reminds us that all healing begins with remembrance of God.

2) Luke Slott – “Healing”

From his most recent album “Year of the Nightingale”, Irish composer and singer-songwriter, Luke Slott, puts his musical talents to work to give us “Healing”. In Luke’s musical version of the prayer, he uses his soft and calming vocals to soothe your ailing heart. Repeating the final sentence of the prayer, “Thou, verily, art the All-Bountiful, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise,”  helps us remember that through God’s bounty, knowledge, and wisdom, we will find the healing we need.

3) Munirih Sparrow – “Healing Prayer”

Describing her sound as “warm, spiritual, soulful acoustic music”, Saskatchewan-based artist, Munirih Sparrow offers another touching arrangement of the short Baha’i healing prayer, from her album “Nightsong”. This piece will put you into a state of meditation and reflection!

4) Ann Sofie Wensbo – “Healing Prayer”

As it states in her artist biography, “With simple and beautiful melodies to acoustic guitar, Ann-Sofie’s warm voice reaches in and touches souls.” This is most certainly true in her performance of the short Baha’i healing prayer, from her musical album “Illumine My Inner Being”. Wensbo ends the song by reminding us of the source of this prayer, singing out the Name of “Bahá’u’lláh”.

5) Devon Gundry – “a healing prayer”

From his “at the top of my lungs” EP, vocalist and singer-songwriter Devon Gundry’s “a healing prayer” utilizes “climactic harmonies and memorable melody” to move your spirit. In the chorus of the song, Devon highlights the phrase “in both this world and the world to come”, reminding us of the eternal nature of God’s healing for the human soul.

6) Badasht (Eric Dozier and JB Eckl) – “Thy Name Is My Healing”

From the prolific Badasht musical collaboration, Eric Dozier, JB Eckl, accompanied by other vocalists and instrumentalists share with us an inspiring and upbeat rendition of the short Bahá’í prayer for healing. It’s amazing to see such diverse artistic expressions!

7) LuAnne Hightower – “Healing Prayer”

A native of Indiana, artist LuAnne Hightower shares a unique sound, described as a graceful fusion of central Asian, western classical and jazz influences.” In LuAnne’s musical rendition of the prayer, she uses converges “soul stirring vocals, extraordinary instrumentals, and the steadfast heartbeat of the bendir drum to weave a sound tapestry that is at once hypnotic and accessible.”

8) Natasha Chiang – “Healing Prayer”

With an indie-folk sound performed in English and Mandarin, Taiwanese-Australian artist Natasha Chiang reaches out to the East and West in this peaceful, soulful recital of the Bahá’í short healing prayer.

9) Shidan Toloui-Wallace – “Healing Prayer”

World-renowned, contemporary chanter Shidan Toloui-Wallace feeds your soul with her Persian chant of the short Baha’i healing prayer. As Shidan mentions in her biography, As a Bahá’í, I was brought up to believe that music is the food for the soul, so to me, life without music would be like starving my soul…”

10) Colby Jeffers – “Healing Prayer”

In my personal contribution to this playlist, I offer up a melodic chant of the short Bahá’í healing prayer set to a moving violin performance by my good friend Chandi Susilo. One of the few times I’ve “sung” on a recorded track (I’m much more comfortable with non-melodic rap), this composition came to me when my late grandfather, Ata Foroughi, was in the hospital with congestive heart failure, and was given only a couple of days to live. I recited the prayer over and over to give me solace as he transitioned to the next world. I’m forever grateful for this prayer for healing revealed by Bahá’u’lláh, and this song will always hold a special spot in my heart!

I hope this playlist of the short Bahá’í prayer for healing set to music has given you what you needed :). Feel free to turn to it when you’re in need of some hope, relief, or consolation to bring healing to your heart.

With love,

– Colby
